State FCCLA (Family Career and Community Leaders of America) Executive Director, Wendy Ambrose, announced that Lake Park Audubon will be one of seven schools receiving a grant from the General Mills Champions grant project.

As a part of the big General Mills Champions Grant initiative for FCCLA, LPA will be one of the sites that will be highlighted throughout the year in reports to General Mills.

Ambrose stated that she knows the chapters selected "will be good stewards of the resources given them. The projects are very creative and it will be fun for the students to work on their plans and also to share their ideas with each other."

The $400 grant will be used for purchasing resources used in the "2-Bite Club" being taught in the LPA kindergarten and first grade classes. Becker County Nutrition Specialist Tracy Baker has helped students by providing activity ideas and literature resources for them to use in their lessons.

LPA FCCLA members involved in the lessons for the elementary students are sophomores Ashley Mattson and Chloe Hanson and eighth grade students Breann Hogie and Elisabeth Peterson.

The FCCLA mentors will be highlighting the food guide pyramid and encouraging their young students to try a new food from each food group by sampling "two-bites" each month. Students will also be incorporating activity into each lesson.
