Students from the Lake Park Audubon Family Career and Community Leaders of America attended the 2011 FCCLA National Cluster Meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Nov. 11 and 12.

This year's theme of the conference was entitled "Raising the Bar," encouraging students to challenge themselves to reach their goals. Twelve members, their advisor Cheryl Hogie, and their assistant advisor Lori Bartunek, listened to keynote speakers and current FCCLA National President Kaylen Larson, from East Grand Forks, speak about the impact that leaders can have in their local communities.

On Friday, the leaders listened to three different presentations including the Tubman Center -- Abuse Prevention Center; distracted driving from MN Trooper Kevin Adrian; and retired police officer Rick Anderson warn the students about Cyber Safety issues.

Friday evening students were inspired by motivational speaker, author, and recording artist Gerald Jones as he encouraged students to find a sense of purpose and direction to become effective leaders.

Saturday's sessions allowed students to select various workshops that built on service, career, and leadership ideas that members can bring back to their communities. For the closing session, students listened to the "Climber Guy," John Beede share how his integration of outdoor adventure stories can catapult members to achieve their own personal achievement.
