The Detroit Lakes Public Library debuted its new book bike last week, at the Summit Avenue Street Market on July 8. The library had been fundraising for the little mobile library for the past few months.

Greta Guck, the library’s director, said the DL Book Bike went over well in its first appearance, with lots of curious folks stopping by to ask questions about it, and about 20 children's books given away to visiting kids.

While COVID-19 has thrown a wrench into the library’s original plans for regular book bike appearances this summer, Guck said the bike will still be out and about at occasional community gatherings such as the street market.
