After a summer spent hosting 16 weeks' worth of kids' day camps that strictly adhered to state-mandated pandemic safety guidelines — including the wearing of face masks by kids and adults alike — the staff of the Becker County Museum realized that having some sort of aid to help the kids hold onto their masks throughout the day was a necessity, not a luxury.
Their solution? Face mask lanyards. The museum had roughly 3,000 lanyards made — each imprinted with the Becker County Museum logo — and distributed them to elementary schools throughout the county.
"We have given more than 2,700 lanyards to students and teachers so far," said museum director Becky Mitchell. "They're soft, woven nylon, very lightweight, and have a safety breakaway feature. The clips on the ends also make it really easy to switch out for a clean mask each day."

A limited amount of the lanyards are also available in the museum's gift shop, in both child and adult sizes, for just $5 each. Those who would like to purchase one for themselves are invited to call the museum at 218-847-2938 to reserve however many they would like, or come to the museum at 714 Summit Ave. during the museum's regular hours, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday, to pick one up and stroll through the gift shop. (Face masks are required while inside the museum building.)
