On Saturday, Nov. 1, youth from St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Detroit Lakes, will be spending the night away from the comfort of their homes to raise awareness and funds for homeless people.
They will be experiencing a tiny bit of what it is like to be homeless, staying at St. Luke’s with chaperones, sleeping in cardboard boxes or sleeping bags.
The group is sleeping out on Nov. 1 to understand for just one night what homeless people in America will suffer through this year, and to join them in solidarity in their daily struggle for basic human rights.
The group also hopes to teach the community about the plight of homeless people - not the kids thousands of miles away or on TV - but the kids just a few miles away, who slip by unnoticed.
More than 1.5 million kids will find themselves homeless at some point this year, and that’s not just in urban areas.

The young people of St. Luke’s will be raising money to support Compassion House, a local shelter for homeless men. They have a bunkroom for emergency stays. They also have long term shelter available, along with resources for finding permanent housing.
If you are interested in attending, helping provide snacks or beverages, supporting a young person on the team, or chaperoning, please contact Amy Fish.
