Hammerschlagen, Jumbo Jenga, Beer Pong, a costume contest, even a redneck-themed version of the popular comedy improv show, "Whose Line Is It Anyway"... it's all part of the fun planned for the Vergas community's fifth annual Redneck Holidazzle, set for this coming Saturday, Nov. 19.

Though the Vergas Community Club has hosted the event in the past, Billy's Corner Bar and Skal Bar & Grill have joined forces to host this year's celebration, according to Vergas City Clerk/Treasurer Julie Lammers.

As a result of the change in leadership, some of the activities have changed.

"There won't be a parade this year," Lammers said, in part due to dwindling participation.

Events of previous years like the Mr. Redneck Pageant, the Beer Chase and Redneck Dating Game have also gone by the wayside, though the Chili Cookoff (set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Skal) and the Redneck Breakfast of biscuits and gravy at the Loon's Nest (serving from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.) have remained.

Several new events have been added as well, Lammers said.

All-day competitions Redneck Photo Trivia and Pass the Plunger will be hosted by Skal, while Billy's will be offering a Hammerschlagen tournament at 4 p.m. and Jumbo Beer Pong (weather permitting) from 5 to 7 p.m.

Besides the chili cookoff at 2 p.m., Skal will also be hosting a pumpkin-throwing contest from 3 to 4 p.m.. Prizes for the chili cookoff include a $100 gift card for first place, $50 for second place and $25 for third, while the first-place winner in the pumpkin-throwing contest will get a $20 gift card.

From 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Skal will host the aforementioned Jumbo Jenga contest while Billy's will be offering something called "Road Kill Bingo."

Back over at Billy's, the Redneck Entertainment production of "Whose Line Is It Anyway" gets underway at 6:30 p.m.

Billy's will also host the popular band October Road, which takes the stage at 9 p.m., and the band members will judge the costume contest at 10 p.m. Prizes will include $100 for the most creative costume and $100 for the "most redneck" costume.

For more information on any of these events, please contact Skal Bar & Grill or Billy's Corner Bar in Vergas.
