'Saxy Strings' at Holmes Theatre Jan. 30
DETROIT LAKES - The Historic Holmes Theatre's final Classical Music Night of the 2017-18 season is set for this coming Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m.
Saxy Stringz is a saxophone and string quartet made up of members of the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony including Russ Peterson (saxophones), Sonja Harrisum (violins), Jane Capistrane (violin), Tim Nelson (viola) and Greg Hamilton (cello). This family friendly program features original music from Peterson, tango music by Astor Piazzolla, and even some rock 'n roll! Def Leppard, Journey coming to Sioux Falls, Minneapolis, Fargo
FARGO - Classic rockers Def Leppard and Journey announced Friday, Jan. 19, that they are teaming up for a North American tour that in this region will take them to Sioux Falls, Minneapolis and Fargo. The two will perform together in 58 cities on the tour starting May 21 on the east coast. The regional concerts are at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls on Wednesday, July 18, at Target Field in Minneapolis on Friday, July 27, and at the Fargodome in Fargo the next day. In addition to their arena concerts, the bands are also performing at 10 arenas, including Target Field. The concerts will feature complete sets and all-new production from both bands, and an arsenal of their hits such as "Pour Some Sugar on Me," "Lights," "Photograph," "Don't Stop Believin'," "Rock of Ages" and "Faithfully." Tickets for the Sioux Falls were announced, but not for the other two. The Sioux Falls tickets range from $49.50 to $179.50 and are going on sale Feb. 3 at 10 a.m. at the events center box office, www.ticketmaster.com, or charge-by-phone at 800-745- 3000. Ticket information has not yet been announced for the Fargodome or Target Field dates.
Maggie Wothe crowned Miss Perham 2018
PERHAM - Maggie Wothe was selected Miss Perham 2018 and Hanna Beck was chosen as Miss Perham's Outstanding Teen 2018 at the Miss Perham and Miss Heart of the Lakes Pageant on Jan. 13 at the Perham High School Auditorium.
Also crowned were Miss Heart of the Lakes 2018, Alexandra Koes, and Miss Heart of the Lakes Outstanding Teen 2018, Bailey Walsh.
The Miss Perham Scholarship Organization has been active for 32 years and is a leading achievement and scholarship program for some of Minnesota's most accomplished young women. Scholarship winners advance to the Miss Minnesota Scholarship Pageant where they compete with young women from across the state for the title of Miss Minnesota, an official preliminary pageant to Miss America. BAGLEY - Dick Roue is the latest to perform for Farm By The Lakes' Storytelling Series. He'll appear at the Bagley Public Library at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28. The event is free and open to the public.
From the Fosston area, Roue is a storyteller who has been spinning tales for more than 50 years.
"I talk about experiences from life - childhood on the farm, years in the military, years in law enforcement, etc...with maybe a touch of exaggeration, and quite a bit of humor thrown in," Roue said.
He tells stories for the pleasure of his audience and his own enjoyment, whether he is reading poetry for senior citizen groups or schools, giving lectures on events in history, speaking in church, or just telling jokes.
