Polar Explorer Ann Bancroft: The community is invited to spend an evening with Minnesota-native Ann Bancroft, a world-renowned polar explorer and internationally recognized leader and educator, starting at 7 p.m. inside Detroit Lakes' Historic Holmes Theater, which is located at 826 Summit Ave. There is no charge to attend this event, which is being funded through the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

Singing Valentines: The Heart O'Lakes Harmony Men's Barbershop Chorus is offering area residents an opportunity to send their sweetheart a singing valentine for Valentine's Day. A quartet of singers from Heart O'Lakes Harmony will present the special gift of a romantic tune to that special someone, at a location of your choice. Polar Fest 2018: Detroit Lakes' biggest winter celebration continues through Monday, Feb. 19, with festivities including 'Polar-palooza' tubing at Detroit Mountain, Ice Tee Golf, a youth fishing derby, helicopter rides, Freeze Your Buns Run, Frozen Fireworks and of course, the Polar Fest Plunge into Little Detroit Lake. Lenten Fish Fry: The local Knights of Columbus will be hosting three Friday Lenten Fish Fry events on Feb. 16, March 2 and March 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Holy Rosary Parish Center. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for all kids under age 12. All proceeds will be used to benefit the community.
'Reforming Worship': On Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 17-18, First Lutheran Church of Detroit Lakes will be hosting a very special guest speaker, Dr Dirk Lange. The current professor of worship at Luther Seminary, Dr. Lange was also a brother in the Taize´ monastery in southern France for 20 years, and he was asked by the Lutheran World Federation to put together the Worship service for the commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the reformation in Lund, Sweden with the Vatican, alongside with Pope Francis. He will be discussing Martin Luther in worship as well as his experience in Lund. Sessions are 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday (two sessions), and 8:30 and 10:45 a.m. presentations on Sunday as part of the worship service, as well as a 9:35 a.m. forum for adults. All sessions are free, and the public is welcome.
