Climate Change Presentation: Eric Grimsrud, Ph.D., an atmospheric scientist and author of "Thoughts of a Scientist, Citizen, and Grandpa on Climate Change," will give an hour-long presentation at the Detroit Lakes Public Library starting at 10:30 a.m. Hosted by West Central Climate Action, this free event will give attendees a chance to learn more about the economic and environmental case for reducing carbon in the air as soon as possible.
Patrick Thompson Benefit: A benefit for area resident Patrick Thompson, who will soon undergo open heart surgery and has been placed on the recipient list for a kidney transplant, will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Shorewood Pub. There will be a live auction at 5:30 p.m., as well as a pulled pork dinner (admission is a free will donation). All are welcome. Kayak Tour: Experience the beauty of an early autumn day on Blackbird Lake at Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge. Join a refuge ranger and volunteer to explore nature during this time of change. Meet at 2 p.m. at the Blackbird Lake boat access for this leisurely 1.5 hour cruise. Bring your own kayak or canoe. Life jackets are required.

Gordy Lindquist Piano Concert: Trinity Lutheran Church in New York Mills (not Detroit Lakes) will host a piano concert by retired NDSU music professor Gordy "Crazy Fingers" Lindquist at 7 p.m. The church is located at 424 E. Though there is no charge for the concert, attendees are asked to make a donation of diapers in any size to help support The Perry Center in Fargo, which helps women going through an unplanned pregnancy by providing for her physical, emotional and spiritual needs throughout the birthing process, in a residential setting. Preschool screening: Preschool screening for 3-5 year olds for the Frazee-Vergas district is provided through Becker County Community Health Services.
