Teen Writers Group: The Detroit Lakes Public Library has created a writing group specially for teens. The Teen Writers' Group will meet at the library starting at 4 p.m., and is open to any teen interested in writing inspiration and support and is offered free of charge. Kids Count Coffee Stop: The Kids Count Coffee is an informal gathering for community members who work with and are concerned about kids, to be held in Room 215 at Mahube-Otwa Community Action, 1125 W. Take a Kid Ice Fishing: The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources invites area anglers to Take a Kid Ice Fishing this weekend, Saturday Jan. 19 through Monday, Jan. 21. During the weekend, Minnesota residents aged 16 or older can fish or dark-house spear without an angling or spearing license if they take a child younger than 16 fishing or spearing. King Isbit's Throne Construction: Come down to the Detroit Lakes City Beach near the Pavilion and view progress on the construction of King Isbit's ice throne and royal courtyard, which will be unveiled at a Grand Lighting Ceremony set for Thursday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. There is also a live webcam set up at www.iceharvestdl.org/live-feed.
Peoples Park Skating Rink & Warming House: From now through Feb. 28, the outdoor skating rink and warming house at Peoples Park will be open every Monday through Friday, 3-5:30 p.m. and 6-8:30 p.m.; and Saturdays and Sundays, 12-5 p.m. and 6-8:30 p.m. (the rink will be lit up from dusk until closing). On days when there is no school, the rink and warming house will be open 12-5 p.m. and 6-8:30 p.m. Schedule is weather dependent; changes and/or cancellations will be announced on KRCQ Radio and the City of Detroit Lakes Facebook page.
