2018 Ice Harvest DL Committee wins Explore MN Tourism award
ST. PAUL — During the 2019 Explore Minnesota Tourism Conference, held at the InterContinental Saint Paul Riverfront Hotel earlier this week, Detroit Lakes' own Ice Harvest Steering Committee was presented with an Only in Minnesota Award for "Best New Event of the Year" — for the construction and opening of King Isbit's Ice Palace.
Several other individuals, organizations and tourism businesses were recognized at the annual Explore Minnesota Tourism Awards for their contributions to the state's $15.3 billion travel industry.
According to a press release from Explore Minnesota Tourism, the Best New Event of the Year award is presented to "a new limited-time or annual public event (2017-18) which has had a significant and lasting impact on the community; presented to an event or event organizers."
The Park Rapids Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce & Tourism was also honored with the Destination Marketing-Niche Targeting Award, which is presented annually for "marketing campaign/initiatives directed to a specific type or category of travel including but not limited to: hunting/fishing, snowmobiling, hiking, cultural heritage tourism, agritourism, ecotourism, culinary, etc."
