The "Inside Out: A Step Inside Mental Illness" kickoff event, a Video Premiere and Panel, will take place this Tuesday, Feb. 19 at M State. Resource booths will open to the public at 6:15 p.m., a video premiere will start at 7, and a Q&A with panelists will be held from 7:30-8:15 p.m.
The related series of videos and newspaper articles will begin next week, with the first video launching Monday, Feb. 25. A new video will be released every Monday after that for eight weeks. Videos will be available to watch, at no cost, on Becker County Energize's website, beckercountyenergize.com. There will also be a program airing each week on lakestv3.com.
The videos will be released as follows:
• Feb. 25: Depression with Jessica
• March 4: PTSD with Scott
• March 11: Anxiety with Kristina
• March 18: Suicide prevention with Heather
• March 25: ADHD with Rachelle and Keagan
• April 1: Addiction with Kristina
• April 8: Schizophrenia with Kyle
• April 15: OCD with Erika
Newspaper articles will be published in the Wednesday editions of The Detroit Lakes Tribune, also starting next week. The first article will be published next Wednesday, Feb. 27 and then the series will continue in the newspaper every Wednesday after that for eight weeks. The articles will also appear on the newspaper's website, www.dl-online.com.
The videos and articles will delve into the lives of local residents who have some common mental illnesses, like depression, PTSD, anxiety, ADHD, and others. The "Inside Out" project is a community campaign to bring awareness to mental illness and reduce the stigmas surrounding it.
Community partners include Leighton Broadcasting, Becker County Energize, Detroit Lakes Newspapers, and about a dozen area healthcare and wellness organizations.
