The Detroit Lakes Tribune has once again begun accepting community calendar items, for publication online and in our Wednesday print edition.

Submissions must be made at least a week in advance of the event date, in writing, to either dltribune@dlnewspapers.com or vgerdes@dlnewspapers.com.

Each submission must include the following: Date, time and location of event, whether it is recurring or a one-time happening, and where to go for more information (phone, email and/or website). Also include whether the event is free or paid admission, and how much it costs when applicable.

Midsummer Bike Tour: Who's ready for a bike ride? Registration starts in front of the Detroit Lakes Community & Cultural Center at 6:30 a.m.; cyclists will depart between 7 and 8:30 a.m. Choose from a 13, 26 or 43 mile ride, with water and food stops throughout. Cost is $20 for a single rider or $50 for a family of five or less. Proceeds support youth programs at the DLCCC. Call 218-844-4221 for more info.

Humane Society Shelter Days: The Humane Society of the Lakes will host a garage sale at the shelter, located at 19665 US Hwy. 59, Detroit Lakes, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., as well as a dog run at 11 a.m.; area food trucks will be gathered in the back yard too! All proceeds to benefit the Humane Society.

Tuesday, July 14

Sons of Norway: Sons of Norway, Vikingland Lodge 1-495 will meet at 6 p.m. in the Detroit Lakes City Park. Please note change of meeting time and location. Bring your own chair; face masks encouraged, but not required, and please observe social distancing guidelines. Donuts and coffee will be served following the short business meeting.

Mainstreet-A Bob Seger Tribute: Hosted by the Historic Holmes Theatre, Steve Kelly & the Tribute Kings will perform a live concert featuring the music of Bob Seger in the Detroit Lakes City Park Bandshell, starting at 7:30 p.m. No admission fee, but free will donations will be accepted. Bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit on. Masks are strongly recommended, but not required.

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support Group: Hospice of the Red River Valley offers a free ongoing grief support group for anyone who has experienced the death of a baby through pregnancy loss, stillbirth or in the first year of life. This group is co-facilitated by Hospice of the Red River Valley and Essentia Health. The group, which meets on the third Thursday of the month 6:30-8 p.m. at the local HRRV office, 1111 Highway 10, Detroit Lakes, is free and open to the public.

Friday, July 17

Food Truck Fridays: Hosted by Detroit Lakes Noon Rotary, every Friday through Sept. 4 (rain or shine). Detroit Lakes City Park, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Food trucks on site may vary.

Superintendent Meet and Greet: A meet and greet for new Detroit Lakes Public Schools Superintendent Mark Jenson will be held in the Detroit Lakes City Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in conjunction with the Food Truck Friday event. Come say hello and grab some lunch while you're there.

LAMBAT Family Mountain Bike Ride: Come to Detroit Mountain Recreation Area, 29409 - 170th Street, Detroit Lakes, for a family mountain bike ride hosted by Lakes Area Mountain Bike Alliance and Trails (LAMBAT); free rental bikes will be available starting at 9 a.m., with the ride to get underway at 9:30.
