The Detroit Lakes Tribune has once again begun accepting community calendar items, for publication online and in our Wednesday print edition.

Submissions must be made at least a week in advance of the event date, in writing, to either dltribune@dlnewspapers.com or vgerdes@dlnewspapers.com.

Each submission must include the following: Date, time and location of event, whether it is recurring or a one-time happening, and where to go for more information (phone, email and/or website). Also include whether the event is free or paid admission, and how much it costs when applicable.

Tuesday, September 1

Shelter Fest/Tuesdays in the Park: The Humane Society of the Lakes is teaming up with Detroit Lakes' Historic Holmes Theatre to host its annual Shelter Fest fundraiser in combination with the theater's final Tuesdays in the Park concert of 2020, starting at 5 p.m. in the City Park Bandshell. There will be a silent auction, kids' rock painting activity and an opportunity to get a glimpse at HSL's new 2020 logo wear (available for purchase online) from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by a 90-minute concert from local entertainer Tim Eggebraaten at 7 p.m. The DL Ice Cream Truck will also be serving up frozen treats for purchase throughout the evening. No admission fee; proceeds will go directly to benefit the pets at HSL's shelter on the north side of Detroit Lakes. Seating is limited; please bring a blanket or chair to sit on, and practice social distancing guidelines.

Food Truck Fridays: Hosted by Detroit Lakes Noon Rotary, the final Food Truck Friday of 2020 will be held at the Detroit Lakes City Park from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Food trucks on site may change; event will be held rain or shine.

Ojibwe Forests Rally: The Ojibwe Forests Rally kicks off its 40th year this weekend, Aug. 27-29, throughout northern Minnesota. The COVID-19 pandemic has necessitated changes to the planned events surrounding the rally and eliminated the ability to have the fans watch in person. The rally has adapted and will be live streaming sections of all 14 of the competitive stages in Detroit Lakes, Itasca, and Park Rapids. The event can be live streamed at ojibweforestsrally.com/live.

Detroit Lakes Bowling Association: Bowling leagues are forming now and are looking for bowlers. Leagues will begin the week of Sept. 7 at Detroit Lakes' Voyageur Lanes. If you are interested in bowling full-time or being a substitute bowler, please contact the bowling alley at 218-844-2695 or Deb Krogsgaard, association manager at 651-283-7930. They will ensure you are put into contact with a league which is the best fit for you.
