The Detroit Lakes Tribune has once again begun accepting community calendar items, for publication online and in our Wednesday print edition.

Submissions must be made at least a week in advance of the event date, in writing, to either dltribune@dlnewspapers.com or vgerdes@dlnewspapers.com.

Each submission must include the following: Date, time and location of event, whether it is recurring or a one-time happening, and where to go for more information (phone, email and/or website). Also include whether the event is free or paid admission, and how much it costs when applicable.

Food Pantry Giveaway: The Becker County Food Pantry, located at 1308 Rossman Ave, Detroit Lakes, will be doing another “farm to family giveaway” via the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP), from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until the food runs out. The package will be a 35 pound box of meat, produce and dairy items. We will still ask to see a current piece of mail for each family receiving items, in particular if there are multiple families in a car. (If you are alerting others about this, make sure they know about bringing mail.) Please make sure your trunk or back of your vehicle is cleaned out as boxes will be directly loaded into your vehicle. Listen to the radio for updates.

Color Guard Breakfast: The Lake Region Veterans Color Guard is hosting a fundraiser breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon at the Detroit Lakes American Legion Club. Breakfast will feature scrambled eggs, pancakes or French toast, and sausage or bacon, all for a suggested donation of $7.

Steve Simon Community Forum: The Detroit Lakes Area League of Women Voters is hosting a virtual community forum with Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon at 5 p.m. via Zoom. Simon will be speaking about "Voting in a Pandemic: Up to the Minute in Minnesota’s 2020 Election.” A question-and-answer session will follow Simon's presentation. This event is open to all. Virtual Author Presentation: Lake Agassiz Regional Library will host a virtual event featuring journalist Sierra Crane Murdoch, author of "Yellow Bird: Oil, Murder, and a Woman’s Search for Justice in Indian Country." This virtual event will be held live on the Lake Agassiz Regional Library Facebook page at 7 p.m. The virtual event can be viewed at www.facebook.com/larlmn, free of charge.

Izaak Walton League: The Prairie Woods Chapter of the Izaak Walton League will host a virtual presentation by Jeff Forester, Executive Director of the Minnesota Lakes and Rivers Advocates (www.mnlakesandrivers.org), at 7 p.m. via Zoom. Forester will be sharing some anticipated environmental and conservation issues of the 2021 Minnesota Legislative Session.
