The Detroit Lakes Tribune has once again begun accepting community calendar items, for publication online and in our Wednesday print edition.

Submissions must be made at least a week in advance of the event date, in writing, to either dltribune@dlnewspapers.com or vgerdes@dlnewspapers.com.

Each submission must include the following: Date, time and location of event, whether it is recurring or a one-time happening, and where to go for more information (phone, email and/or website). Also include whether the event is free or paid admission, and how much it costs when applicable.

Veteran's Day Ceremony: The 2020 Detroit Lakes Veteran's Day festivities will be held at the east end of Veterans Memorial Park, starting at 10:45 a.m. and ending with a rifle salute and performance of "Taps." Before leaving the park, please take some time to view the list of names of Becker County military service men and women who have lost their lives, from World War I through the Gulf War, which are inscribed on a two-sided monument next to the flag pole.

LARL Virtual Children's Event: Lake Agassiz Regional Library will host a virtual children's event featuring some favorite Lalo's Lunchbox characters, starting at 10 a.m. Stick around after the show for a live Q&A with the actors! The virtual event can be viewed online at www.facebook.com/larlmn, free of charge, through funding from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

Harry Potter Workshop: Come dive into the world of Harry Potter and draw your very own snowy owl, Hedwig, in graphite and soft pastel on toned paper. Then, be swept into Hagrid’s hut and create your own baby dragon, Norbert, in colored pencil on black paper — all while listening to a Harry Potter audiobook! Bring a snack and water for break time. Honor Flight Fundraiser: VFW Auxiliary 1676 and American Legion Post 15 of Detroit Lakes are hosting a meatball dinner and bake sale from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Detroit Lakes American Legion Club, 810 West Lake Drive. Guests can choose from dine-in and drive-through options for the meal. Call 218-847-8533 for takeout, or a volunteer will bring the meal out to you for curbside pickup. Suggested donations of $10 per meal would be greatly appreciated, as this event is being held as a fundraiser for the Honor Flight program.
