Each submission must include the following: Date, time and location of event, whether it is recurring or a one-time happening, and where to go for more information (phone, email and/or website). Also include whether the event is free or paid admission, and how much it costs when applicable.

Polar Fest 2021 Kickoff: Polar Fest 2021 begins with the official opening of the "MN Sn'Ice Snow & Ice Showcase" in the Detroit Lakes City Park, and other ongoing activities including outdoor skating at Peoples Park, the Detroit Lakes Early Childhood Family Education Little Polar Bear Game, the "Wishing Tie" tree at the Historic Holmes Theatre, and the Polar Fest Photo Contest. Give Kids a Smile: Dental Associates, located at 1136 Washington Ave. in Detroit Lakes, is offering free dental care for children in the lakes area between 8 a.m. and noon, as part of the Minnesota Dental Association's Give Kids a Smile program. Participating patients can be no older than 18 years of age, and must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Great Polar Hunt Kickoff: The DL Chamber will be hosting a Great Polar Hunt game as a part of Polar Fest this year. Solve the puzzle by finding signs around Detroit Lakes for a chance to win prizes! Noon Rotary Virtual Wine Tasting: The Detroit Lakes Noon Rotary Club is hosting a virtual wine tasting event as part of Polar Fest 2021. This 7 p.m. virtual wine tasting with sommelier Jean Taylor will help you choose the best wines for Valentine’s Day, and enjoy a fun evening of Zooming, laughing, and sharing with old friends and new. Giving Hearts Day: Ten local organizations are participating in this 24-hour online charitable giving event; go to givingheartsday.org to find your favorite charity, or stop by the Washington Square Mall in Detroit Lakes between 10 a.m.-1 p.m. to drop off your donation (cash or checks accepted) in person. Most gifts of $10 or more will be matched by donations from area businesses and organizations.

Arctic Photography Presentation: As part of Polar Fest, the Detroit Lakes Public Library presents a free virtual event live on Facebook at 7 p.m., featuring Arctic photographer and outdoor writer John Stember. He will share the story of a family which lived off the land in the wilderness of Alaska. In this presentation, Stember will share about their lifestyle in the wilderness, how his life came to intersect with their path, and his photographic journey in the Arctic. Chocolate Fantasy: Order a chocolate tray for your sweetheart, co-workers, and/or employees for pickup or delivery on Feb. 11-12 and support the Becker County Museum. Poles 'N Holes Virtual Ice Fishing Derby: Though the Detroit Lakes Breakfast Rotary Club's on-ice Poles 'N Holes Fishing Derby on Saturday, Feb. 6 is sold out, anyone in Minnesota can sign up for the virtual derby between Feb. 12-14 by downloading the free Fish Donkey phone app and registering for Poles 'N Holes (tickets are $30 each). Once you're signed up, you can fish from anywhere in Minnesota, post a photo of your fish and be eligible to win a variety of prizes.
