Each submission must include the following: Date, time and location of event, whether it is recurring or a one-time happening, and where to go for more information (phone, email and/or website). Also include whether the event is free or paid admission, and how much it costs when applicable.

Polar Fest Virtual Freeze Your Buns Run: The Center at the Detroit Lakes Community & Cultural Center has canceled its in-person 5K run/walk due to extreme cold weather; a virtual event will take place instead, with participants having until Feb. 21 to submit photo/video proof that they have completed the run (either indoors or outdoors). Radio Play on KDLM: Lakes Broadcasting and the Historic Holmes Theatre are teaming up to present an original play, "The Arrival of King Isbit" by local playwright Kendra Gilsdorf, at 10:30 a.m. on KDLM Radio (1340 FM/93.1 AM). Polar Fest Plunge: The signature event of Detroit Lakes’ annual Polar Fest celebration, the Plunge gets underway at 1 p.m. with a virtual link to "Proxy Plunger" Josh Duhamel's leap into the icy water. This is the Detroit Lakes Boys & Girls Club’s biggest fundraiser of the year; visit www.bgcdl.org for details on how to register or get involved. Raffle tickets are also available for $10 each.

Legion Auxiliary Breakfast Fundraiser: American Legion Auxiliary Unit 15 will host a breakfast fundraiser featuring a choice of biscuits and gravy, pancakes or French toast; bacon or sausage; scrambled eggs and coffee, from 8 a.m. to noon at the American Legion Club in Detroit Lakes. Suggested donations of $7 per plate will be greatly appreciated.

Climate Change Virtual Presentation: Ann Mulholland, regional director for The Nature Conservancy in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota, will present "Protecting Nature and Tackling Climate Change," live at 7 p.m. Hosted by the Prairie Woods Chapter of the Izaak Walton League, this free event can be streamed via their Facebook page.
William Kent Krueger Virtual Presentation: Join Lake Agassiz Regional Library for a free virtual event at 7 p.m., featuring beloved Minnesota author William Kent Krueger. He will be discussing the importance of books in a world of chaos, highlighting the profound and positive influence of books in his life. This event is free-of-charge and will be streamed live on the Lake Agassiz Regional Library Facebook Page at www.facebook.com/larlmn.

Knights of Columbus Fish Fry: The Knights of Columbus will be sponsoring a ”Take Out Only” Lenten fish fry from 5 to 7 p.m., with pickup in the south parking lot of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. The menu features fish, potatoes, coleslaw, baked beans, bun and dessert. Cost is $10 for adults.

ULTRA Snowmobile Club Vintage Rally: Detroit Lakes' ULTRA Snowmobile Club will host its annual Vintage Rally & Swap Meet from 8 a.m. to noon on the Detroit Lakes City Beach, followed by a group ride from 12 to 5 p.m. Visit the website at ultradl.org for details.
Kool Kites on the Ice: A team of professional show kite flyers will dazzle us with their kites of all shapes and sizes in a live demonstration; families are invited to bring their own kites and join in the fun, which starts at 11 a.m. on the ice of Little Detroit Lake. Free kite kits are also available at the front desk of the Detroit Lakes Community & Cultural Center while supplies last! Stop in and pick yours up anytime prior to the event, then bring it home and decorate it yourself to bring along to the event.
Poles & Holes Fishing Derby: Fishing lines are expected to drop at noon for the 10th annual Detroit Lakes Breakfast Rotary Club “Poles and Holes” Fishing Derby on Little Detroit Lake. Gates open at 9 a.m., with the derby running from 12 to 3 p.m., after which prizes will be awarded. Raffle tickets will also be available on the ice from Rotary volunteers for $10 each. Tickets for the live derby are sold out, but folks can still sign up for the virtual derby by downloading the free Fish Donkey phone app and registering for Poles 'N Holes (tickets are $30 each). Once you're signed up, you can fish from anywhere in Minnesota, post a photo of your fish and be eligible to win a variety of prizes. Sweetheart Snow Trek at Tamarac: Bring your own snowshoes, or check out a loaner pair for this 1.5 mile trek through the woods of Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge, which starts at 1 p.m. Hear stories of how wildlife adapt to Minnesota winters along the way. Meet at the Discovery Center. Bring water and snacks. Mask or neck gaiter and 6 foot social distancing encouraged. Hosted by the Friends of Tamarac NWR.
