The Detroit Lakes Tribune accepts community calendar items, for publication online and in our Wednesday and Sunday print editions, space permitting.

Submissions must be made at least a week in advance of the event date, in writing, to either dltribune@dlnewspapers.com or vgerdes@dlnewspapers.com.

Each submission must include the following: Date, time and location of event, whether it is recurring or a one-time happening, and where to go for more information (phone, email and/or website). Also include whether the event is free or paid admission, and how much it costs when applicable.

A Tribute to Billy & Elton: The Historic Holmes Theatre in Detroit Lakes will be hosting a special tribute concert featuring the music of Billy Joel and Elton John, starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale at the website, dlccc.org/holmes-theatre.html, or by phone at 218-844-7469. Cost is $28; only 200 in-person tickets will be sold, though there is also a virtual viewing option.

Virtual Legislative Town Hall: The Minnesota Senate DFL will be hosting a virtual town hall in rural Minnesota featuring Senator Erin Murphy (DFL-Saint Paul), Senator Kent Eken (DFL-Twin Valley), and Senator Nick Frentz (DFL-North Mankato), starting at 7 p.m. Join them as they discuss and hear about the issues and priorities of rural communities across the state. Master Gardeners Seed Starting Event: Local Master Gardeners will set up information stations at the Detroit Lakes Public Library from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., sharing information about seed starting. This program is offered free of charge and will include stops at stations dedicated to making a newspaper pot, creating your own recycled container station and starting seeds in plastic deli containers, making a self-watering container out of a soda bottle. All are welcome to tour the stations at the Detroit Lakes Public Library, 1000 Washington Ave. Call 218-847-2168 for more information.

American Legion Post 15 Dinner: The national commander of the American Legion, James W. "Bill" Oxford, and Minnesota Legion Department Commander, Mark Dvorak, will be in attendance for a 6 p.m. dinner at American Legion Post 15, 810 West Lake Drive, Detroit Lakes, and will speak during the event. Lake Country Woodcarvers: Anyone interested in wood carving or woodworking is welcome to bring their latest projects to the Holmes Art Cellar every Tuesday from 1 to 4 p.m. and enjoy a free woodworking session. Detroit Lakes Public Library: The Detroit Lakes Public Library has expanded its operating hours to resume the same schedule it had pre-pandemic. Hours are as follows — Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.; it is closed on Sundays.
