The Detroit Lakes Tribune accepts community calendar items, for publication online and in our Wednesday and Sunday print editions, space permitting.

Submissions must be made at least a week in advance of the event date, in writing, to either dltribune@dlnewspapers.com or vgerdes@dlnewspapers.com.

Each submission must include the following: Date, time and location of event, whether it is recurring or a one-time happening, and where to go for more information (phone, email and/or website). Also include whether the event is free or paid admission, and how much it costs when applicable.

Vergas Maple Syrup Festival: The city of Vergas will host its annual Maple Syrup Festival, with events scheduled throughout the day including a Pancake & Sausage Feed, 8-11 a.m. at the Vergas Event Center (limited indoor and outdoor seating, take home option available); Saps Running 5K Walk/Run starting at 9 a.m. (registration 8:8:30 a.m.) in front of Billy's Bar; Maple Leaf Medallion Hunt starting at 9 a.m. (clues posted every hour at the Vergas Event Center); Kids' Maple Leaf Hunt, 10-10:30 a.m.; special discounts at local businesses and more. Legion Auxiliary Breakfast Fundraiser: American Legion Auxiliary Unit 15 will be hosting a breakfast fundraiser from 8 a.m. to noon at the Legion Club, 810 West Lake Drive, Detroit Lakes. Serving a choice of biscuits and gravy, French toast or sausage with scrambled eggs and coffee; suggested donation is $7 per person.

Virtual Public Meeting-Hwy. 87 Project: The Minnesota Department of Transportation invites the public to a virtual public meeting, starting at 5:30 p.m., to learn more about the upcoming construction work on Highway 87 between Frazee and Menahga. A formal presentation by MnDOT will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by time for questions. The reconstruction project on Highway 87 is scheduled to begin in early May. The work will take place between North River Drive in Frazee and the Wadena/Becker County line, west of Menahga. Highway 87 will be closed until October, and the detour will follow County Road 29, Highway 34 and Highway 71. Storytime Live: Join Kai from the Moorhead Public Library or Eliza from the Detroit Lakes Public Library for a 10 a.m. Storytime featuring songs and stories. This virtual event will be streamed live on the Lake Agassiz Regional Library Facebook page (facebook.com/larlmn) and a recording will be available following the presentation. No pre-registration is required.

Farmers to Families Food Distribution: The Farmers to Families Food Box program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, will be holding a mobile food shelf event at the Soo Pass Ranch, south of Detroit Lakes on Highway 10, starting at 5 p.m. The waiting line will start at 4 p.m. The event is open to the public and does not require any income verification to receive a donation box.
