The Detroit Lakes Tribune accepts community calendar items, for publication online and in our Wednesday and Sunday print editions, space permitting.

Submissions must be made at least a week in advance of the event date, in writing, to either dltribune@dlnewspapers.com or vgerdes@dlnewspapers.com.

Each submission must include the following: Date, time and location of event, whether it is recurring or a one-time happening, and where to go for more information (phone, email and/or website). Also include whether the event is free or paid admission, and how much it costs when applicable.

Ogema VFW Auxiliary Meeting: Ogema VFW Post 9880 Auxiliary will hold their monthly meeting at 4 p.m. in the Ogema VFW Hall. Wednesday, May 12

Storytime Live: Join Kai from the Moorhead Public Library or Eliza from the Detroit Lakes Public Library for a 10 a.m. Storytime featuring songs and stories. This virtual event will be streamed live on the Lake Agassiz Regional Library Facebook page (facebook.com/larlmn) and a recording will be available following the presentation. No pre-registration is required. If you enter the stream before 10:30 a.m., just refresh until the session starts.

Chamber Annual Meeting: Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce members are invited to join the board of directors for our annual meeting, starting at 8 a.m. Each year, we take time to thank our outgoing board of directors, welcome our new board members and update the members of our Chamber on current programming. Eagles Rummage Sale: The Detroit Lakes Eagles Club, 112 W. Holmes St., will host a rummage sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All are welcome.

ATV Certification Class: The Woods & Wheels ATV Club is hosting an ATV certification class for riders age 12 and up, starting at 8:30 a.m. in the Detroit Lakes VFW Club, 500 N. Community Plant Sale: There will be a plant sale to benefit the Becker County Food Pantry at the Detroit Lakes Community Gardens, 1016-11th Ave. SE, Detroit Lakes, starting at 8 a.m. The sale will continue until all plants are gone. All current COVID-19 safety protocols will be followed.

Festival of Birds: Detroit Lakes' Festival of Birds is set for Thursday through Saturday, May 20-22. Registration deadline is Friday, May 14. Cost to participate is $25 per person. Spring Hikes on the North Country Trail: Join the Laurentian Lakes Chapter of the North Country Trail Association for guided spring hikes. Each hike is about four miles in length and will feature natural areas in the Hubble Pond Wildlife Management Area and Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge. Come prepared with sturdy shoes, water, and tick protection. The first hike is Wednesday May 12 beginning at 9 a.m. at the Minnesota State Hwy. 34 trailhead, about 10 miles east of Detroit Lakes. On May 19th and 26th meet at the 400th Ave trailhead near Island Lake in Becker County.
