The Detroit Lakes Tribune accepts community calendar items, for publication online and in our Wednesday and Sunday print editions, space permitting.

Submissions must be made at least a week in advance of the event date, in writing, to either dltribune@dlnewspapers.com or vgerdes@dlnewspapers.com.

Each submission must include the following: Date, time and location of event, whether it is recurring or a one-time happening, and where to go for more information (phone, email and/or website). Also include whether the event is free or paid admission, and how much it costs when applicable.

Eagles Rummage Sale: The Detroit Lakes Eagles Club, 112 W. Holmes St., will host a rummage sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All are welcome.

ATV Certification Class: The Woods & Wheels ATV Club is hosting an ATV certification class for riders age 12 and up, starting at 8:30 a.m. in the Detroit Lakes VFW Club, 500 N. Color Guard Breakfast: The Lake Region Veterans Color Guard will be hosting a breakfast fundraiser from 8 a.m. to noon at the American Legion Club, 810 West Lake Drive, Detroit Lakes. Suggested donation is $7 for a meal including scrambled eggs; pancakes or French toast; and sausage or bacon, plus beverage.

Center Stage Dance Spring Recital: Two performances of the 2021 Center Stage Spring Dance Recital will be held at the Historic Holmes Theatre, 806 Summit Ave., Detroit Lakes, at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Tickets are $8, and may be purchased at dlccc.org/holmes-theatre.html.

Steak Fry: The First Zinger Squadron of American Legion Post 15 will be hosting a steak fry fundraiser starting at 5 p.m. in the American Legion Club, 810 West Lake Drive, Detroit Lakes. Cost is $14 per plate; serving will continue until all the steak is gone.

Saturday, May 22

Community Plant Sale: There will be a plant sale to benefit the Becker County Food Pantry at the Detroit Lakes Community Gardens, 1016-11th Ave. SE, Detroit Lakes, starting at 8 a.m. The sale will continue until all plants are gone. All current COVID-19 safety protocols will be followed.

Rummage Sale: Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 23115 County Highway 14, Callaway, will host a two-day rummage sale on Friday and Saturday, May 14-15, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. All are welcome.

Defensive Driving Classes: An 8-hour, in-person defensive driving course will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on both Monday, May 17 and Tuesday, May 18 at the ITOW (In Their Own Words) Veterans Museum, 805 W. Main, Perham. Cost is $25. This course is for those that have not taken a Defensive Driving Class. To register please call Denise Lillis at 218-346-3336.

Festival of Birds: Detroit Lakes' Festival of Birds is set for Thursday through Saturday, May 20-22. Registration deadline is Friday, May 14. Cost to participate is $25 per person. Spring Hikes on the North Country Trail: Join the Laurentian Lakes Chapter of the North Country Trail Association for guided spring hikes. Each hike is about four miles in length and will feature natural areas in the Hubble Pond Wildlife Management Area and Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge. Come prepared with sturdy shoes, water, and tick protection. The first hike is Wednesday May 12 beginning at 9 a.m. at the Minnesota State Hwy. 34 trailhead, about 10 miles east of Detroit Lakes. On May 19th and 26th meet at the 400th Ave trailhead near Island Lake in Becker County.
