Volunteers kept a POW flag in motion for 24 hours straight during the 3rd Annual POW/MIA Memorial Walk, Friday, Sept. 17 at the Waubun High School track.
The event, which was started in 2019 by former Air Force veterans Nate and Jodi Flugel of Detroit Lakes, was something they had seen done at Air Force bases they had been stationed at.
The Flugels, who are both members of Ogema VFW Post 9880, recruit volunteers each year to keep the flag in motion by walking around the Waubun High School track in 15 minute shifts, for 24 hours straight, on the third weekend in September during National POW/MIA Recognition Day.
The POW flag is kept moving for 24 hours in remembrance of those missing in action or prisoner of war and must not be forgot.
More than 100 students, teachers, and volunteers participated in the 24-hour event, which took place from 12 a.m. Friday until midnight on Saturday.
