5K Turkey Trot: Anytime Fitness in Detroit Lakes is hosting a 5K Turkey Trot from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Participants are asked to come a little early to sign a waiver; entry fee is a food donation to the Becker County Food Pantry. Route is the paved trail along Highway 10, from Anytime Fitness into town and back. Members, non-members, kids, dogs and family are all welcome. Coffee, muffins and door prizes provided by Modern Insurance Services (MIS).

Community Thanksgiving Feast: Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes will host its annual Community Thanksgiving Feast from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There is no cost for the meal; it is Holy Rosary's gift to the community, though donations are gratefully accepted to help defer costs. Meal includes turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy and all the trimmings, along with pie for dessert. Delivery, takeout and in-person meal options are all available this year. Library Closed: All Lake Agassiz Regional Library (LARL) branches and LINK sites will close at or before 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 24 and will remain closed on Thursday, Nov. 25 for Thanksgiving. Be Smart on the Internet: Detroit Lakes' Breakfast and Noon Rotary clubs are teaming up to host an entertaining, informational and educational seminar on Cyber Safety and Digital Citizenship from 7 to 8:15 p.m. in the new Detroit Lakes High School Commons. This seminar will be led by local resident Kent Mollberg, who holds a master’s degree in information technology and has created this seminar after witnessing firsthand some of the internet dangers that students confront on a daily basis. Learn about modern technology and what everyone can do to help our children, and ourselves, safely navigate the Internet. This session is intended for audiences from grade 6 to adult, and it is free and open to the public.

Virtual Author Salon: Lake Agassiz Regional Library (LARL) will host a virtual author salon at 7 p.m., featuring acclaimed Minnesota author Sarah Stonich, and Amazon Charts bestselling author of true-crime-inspired mystery novels, Jess Lourey. The two authors will appear virtually, offering a barstool perspective as to what writers really talk about when they talk about writing. An interactive event, Sarah and Jess invite questions about the writing life; inspiration, publishing during a pandemic, etc. There is no cost to participate in this virtual event, which can be accessed at larl.org/offthepage. Festival of Trees Tour: The Lakes Crisis & Resource Center's 5th annual Festival of Trees fundraiser will be presented this year as a tour of lakes area businesses. Sixteen trees and adornments will be displayed in storefronts and businesses throughout the community, Nov. 15-30, with online auction bidding available via the LCRC Facebook page at facebook.com/lakescrisis. Stamp cards will also be provided to encourage visits to each location.

Lake Park Parade of Trees: The community of Lake Park will host its annual Parade of Trees on Nov. 25-28 at the Lake Park American Legion. Trees will be available for viewing from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 25; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 26-27; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28. Admission is a free will donation, with proceeds to benefit future Lake Park beautification projects.

Eagles' Hat, Sock & Mitten Drive: Eagles Aerie 2342 of Detroit Lakes is sponsoring a hat, sock and mitten drive this month, to help those in need. Donations will be accepted at the Eagles Club, 112 Holmes St. West, Detroit Lakes, through Wednesday, Dec. 1. The club is open from 4 to 10 p.m. daily.

Young LIfe Christmas Tree Sales: Lakes Area Young Life will be selling Christmas trees every Friday through Sunday, on four successive weekends — Nov. 26-28, Dec. 3-5, Dec. 10-12 and Dec. 17-19. The location is the same as last year, in the parking lot of West Lake Laundry, 802 West Lake Drive, Detroit Lakes. Hours are 10 a.m.-7 p.m. daily, Nov. 26-28, and every weekend thereafter, while supplies last, from 4 to 7 p.m. on Fridays and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Due to the tree shortage, sales are expected to go quickly, so make sure to get your order in early.

Kids' Acting Club: Detroit Lakes' Historic Holmes Theatre is hosting a weekly Acting Club for kids in grades 1-12, every Tuesday and Saturday from Nov. 16 to Dec. 18. Actress Lorraine Bahr will be the club's acting instructor and facilitator. There will be two groups, for grades 1-5 and grades 6-12.
