Five members of the Detroit Lakes FFA had the special opportunity to attend the State Greenhand Leadership Conference, or SGLC, June 24-28. Conference attendees include: Emily Vogt, Aj Roethel, Kali Olsen, Zach Wolfe and Andi Miller.

The conference, which had a 139 members attending from all across the state, was held at Deep Portage Conservation Reserve in Hackensack, Minn. Facilitating the event were the highly respected State Officer Team, as well as the Region Presidents from all eight regions.

At SGLC, members learned about many things related to FFA opportunities, leadership development, and career success.  Workshops focused on goals setting, personal leadership, stereotypes and diversity and professionalism.

One of the largest benefits of SGLC, was that it gave members from across the state the chance to connect and meet people with similar interests and goals.

Members also got to enjoy the facilities at Deep Portage during their stay. Some activities included a volleyball tournament, indoor rock climbing, canoeing, swimming, hiking, and fishing.

Overall, this Conference had a huge impact on those who attended and really taught members a lot about their role as future leaders in the agricultural industry.

FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education.
