The Club House on the shore

This photo of 'The Clubhouse' can be found in the archives of the Becker County Museum's research library.

The Club House was one of those lakeshore structures that was a favorite summer hangout for Detroit Lakes residents for many years; however, not much information has ever been recorded about it.

Former DL resident David Wisted shared some information about it on Kathie Schaffler Johnson's Facebook page, "Detroit Lakes 50-60s Memories," a couple of years ago: "It looks to me this is on the North Shore of Big Detroit looking West towards the point near where Jeff and Ardis live during summer months 511 North Shore Drive). After looking at maps of both Detroit Lakes, I think this club house was on the West Side of the Pelican River, where it enters Big Detroit... Bill Humphrey purchased that land where I believe the club was located, some time in the 1930’s.  My Grandpa Thor Wisted built Bill’s house and much of the furniture in it in 1934."

If anyone has more information about this building that they would like to share, please contact the Becker County Museum at 218-847-2938.
