One of Becker County's early settlers, Jessie Campbell West, was also one of its first historians. She did a lot of the leg work for Alvin H. Wilcox’s "A Pioneer History of Becker County," and was part of the Pioneer Settlers Union. She knew the importance of collecting and recording what was going on in Becker County during her lifetime, and spent many days making sure that history was recorded. After she died in 1903, Wilcox finished the book, which was published in 1907. Copies of the book are still available for sale at the Becker County Museum.
