Washington Avenue: A look back into its past

Washington Avenue has been the center of Detroit Lakes' downtown business district since its early days, and remains an integral part of the community — as evidenced by the disruption caused when the roadway needs to be resurfaced and updated, as it was a couple of years ago. But during the early 20th century, Washington Avenue was still unpaved.
