It’s enough to make a beagle do a backflip: R&G Subaru has donated $23,572 to the Humane Society of the Lakes.
And the local Humane Society hopes to receive more than $3,000 more this month from a different R&G Subaru fundraiser.
So where did the big donation come from? The Humane Society of the Lakes, located on Highway 59 just north of Detroit Lakes, was selected as the 2019 Subaru Share the Love Event hometown charity.
The fundraiser ran Nov. 14, 2019, through Jan. 2, 2020. Every new car sale or lease at R&G Subaru led to a $250 donation to the local Humane Society animal shelter. Add in another $5 donation for each service ticket, and it all contributed to the grand total of $23,572.
“This generous donation will help support shelter operations, including building expenses and staffing, in addition to helping grow the shelter's new enrichment program,” Shelter Manager Alyssa Cahoon said in a news release. “Shelter residents will soon have the opportunity to learn agility course skills with new equipment, made possible by the generous support of R&G Subaru, Subaru of America, Inc. and their loyal Subaru customers.”

The giving continues this month, as Humane Society of the Lakes has also been selected by R&G Subaru to participate in the Subaru Loves Pets - Make a Pet's Day event.
All month long, R&G will be helping the shelter promote adoptable animals. Each adoption will also result in a $100 donation, up to $3,100. October is already off to a great start, with 15 successful adoptions through Oct. 4. There are currently 32 dogs and cats being cared for at the shelter, but not all are available for adoption due to stray holds or medical or behavioral needs. More animals are coming in weekly, which include both strays and surrendered pets.
Next year, the Detroit Lakes Boys and Girls Club will be the beneficiary of money raised in the 2020 Subaru Share the Love fundraiser, said R&G Subaru Sales Manager Drew Larson.
