Although hunters can't donate venison directly to the Becker County Food Pantry, there is a way for them to receive it: through Hoffman's Meat Market.

According to a news release, Hoffman's is an approved processing plant that works with the Minnesota DNR's Hunter Harvested Deer Donation Program. To donate venison to the Becker County Food Pantry, hunters need to take their gutted, registered deer to Hoffman's and sign documentation to give the deer to the food shelf.

This is of no cost to the food shelf or the hunter.

The program is part of a cooperative effort between the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, the DNR and regional food banks.
