Detroit Lakes-based educational nonprofit TeacHaiti is seeking local donors to help provide 500 holiday food baskets for its students and their families.

"This year has been extremely difficult," wrote TeacHaiti founder Miquette Denie McMahon in a recent post on TeacHaiti's Facebook page.

"Because of the political instability in the country, many people have lost their jobs, making it even more difficult for families who are already struggling."

McMahon added that the TeacHaiti Christmas program is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 14, and they would like to ensure that each of the students they serve receives a food basket to take home. Each food basket costs approximately $30.

"Let's make sure each family in our program can have a meal this holiday season," McMahon added.
