The United Way of Becker County has canceled this year’s Day of Caring, which had been scheduled for May 5.
The annual event saw 2200 volunteers fanning out across Becker County to assist senior citizens with yard work, garden cleanup and window washing. The COVID-19 protocols and restrictions school districts must observe is a big part of the decision to cancel the event once again this year.
“This is a very big day for our seniors; many of them have no one to help them with their outdoor tasks. But the health of our seniors, students and staff was foremost in our thoughts as we made this decision,” stated LuAnn Porter, executive director for the United Way of Becker County. “If you have a neighbor who needs help please lend them a hand. We will definitely be back next year.”
