Area seniors, veterans, youth and physically challenged individuals will once again have opportunities to get out and enjoy the community's lakes this summer.
The Detroit Lakes chapter of Let's Go Fishing is opening its calendar for fishing and sightseeing excursions, from May through September.
"After losing the 2020 season to COVID, we are looking forward to getting back on the water!" said Madalyn Sukke, president of LGF Detroit Lakes. "Fishing and boating means so much to thousands of people in the Detroit Lakes area every year — but what happens when one loses their mobility or someone to go with?"
The Detroit Lakes Area Chapter of Let’s Go Fishing has served over 9,000 area seniors, veterans, youth and physically challenged individuals since its inception in 2008. Anyone interested in getting involved, whether as a volunteer on the pontoon, or in other ways, should call 218-847-9410, send email to firstname.lastname@example.org, visit the website at detroitlakes.lgfws.com, or check out the chapter's Facebook page.
Volunteer orientation and training is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, May 13 at the Holiday Inn, Detroit Lakes.
