Lakes Trail Blazers Saddle Club members competed at the WCA Championship show at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds Sept. 24-26.

To participate in the champ show, riders must be a member of a WSCA saddle club and have to win first or second places at certain show to qualify.

This year, 13 horses and riders from the Lakes Trail Blazers club made the trip to the champ show, and they all did very well in the competition. For five of the members, it was their first time competing at the champ show.

Class sizes ranged from 50 to 110 riders, with the average being around 80 competitors in each event. WSCA places the top 10 in each class.

  • Shauna Obowa: third in Pet Pony Poles, sixth in Pet Pony Barrels
  • Jenna Tollefson: seventh in Pony Poles; seventh in Pee Wee Poles
  • Lauranna Varno: first in Open Ribbon Race
  • Whitney Carlson-Anderson: first in Open Ribbon Race, first in Sr. Barrels, first in Sr. Jumping Figure 8, second in Sr. Key Race, second in Sr. Pole Weaving, fourth in Sr. Pennant.

The Lakes Trail Blazers hold one show per month in the summer, north of Detroit Lakes. They also meet the second Monday of each month.
