Members of the Lake Park-Audubon FCCLA Chapter kicked off the annual Red Ribbon Week activities by tying red ribbons on automobile antennas.

Members also placed a seat belt safety reminder under the windshield wipers that said "Don't get twisted in a car crash, wear your seat belt."

Each message was attached to a small package of rainbow Twizzlers. The students also conducted a seat belt use observation study. The good news for LP-A is that seat belt use has increased by 10 percent in the past two years of increased traffic safety awareness and education from 83 percent in 2008 to 93 percent in 2010.

Additional activities for the week included a traffic safety display at the LP-A Elementary Health and Safety Fair, Red Ribbon distribution and awards for junior high students. Additional activities related to traffic safety are planned by the FCCLA team members throughout the year, including a texting and driving panel in November.
