Alexandra Werner and Jack Richards have both participated in the Concordia Language Villages program.
Werner attended a one-week session at El Lago del Bosque, the Spanish Language Village, located near Cass Lake. Werner is the daughter of Peggy and Glenn Werner, Detroit Lakes, and is an 11th grader.
Richards attended a four-week session at Lago del Bosco, the Italian Language Village, located near Hackensack. Richards is the son of Jay and Jonell Richards, Callaway, and is a 10th grader at Detroit Lakes High School.
By attending El Lago del Bosque, the Spanish Language Village, and Lago del Bosco, the Italian Language Village, Werner and Richards experienced a simulated visit to another country. They were issued a passport, exchanged currency and adopted a new name.
By interacting with staff from all over the world, Werner and Richards also learned about the many opportunities available to those who speak more than one language. They were immersed in the language and culture of another country through large and small learning groups, authentic foods, holiday celebrations, re-enactments of historic events, songs, dances, crafts, games and everyday conversations.
