Crime and fire report: Multiple people injured in Highway 59 crash, driver remains at-large; $1,500 Facebook scam reported in Detroit Lakes

On Friday evening, Dec. 10, a two-vehicle crash near Lake Melissa on Highway 59 injured two. One of the drivers fled the scene on foot and remains at-large. Two people were transported to a nearby medical clinic for treatment. Also, on Thursday, Dec. 9 at 2:04 p.m., a caller from South Carolina said they sent $1,500 worth of camera equipment to an address in Becker County in a sale organized over Facebook. The package was delivered earlier in the week and payment for the items was never received. The buyer has cut off all contact with the seller. The case is under investigation.

Thursday, Dec. 9

5:34 a.m., 22000 block County Road 6, Detroit Lakes, two-vehicle crash. No injuries.

8:39 a.m., 600 block Highway 10, Detroit Lakes, two-vehicle crash. No injuries.

8:57 a.m., 100 block Barbara Avenue, Detroit Lakes, a trespassing individual was reported on the property. A citation was mailed to the individual.

1:57 p.m., 600 block Washington Avenue, Detroit Lakes, shoplifting.

2:04 p.m., 10000 280th Avenue, Detroit Lakes, possible Facebook scam. A caller in South Carolina claims they sent $1,500-worth of camera equipment to an individual in Becker County in a sale organized over Facebook. They report the package was delivered on Tuesday, and no payment has been received and the buyer has cut off all contact with them. The case is under investigation.

3:59 p.m., 26000 block Beaver Trail, Ogema, an individual reported a threat from a co-worker. The co-worker said they made the comment because they were frustrated and it wasn't intended to be a threat.

5:15 p.m., near 550th Avenue and 170th Street, Menahga, a single-vehicle crash was reported off the roadway. No injuries.

5:44 p.m., 200 block east Holmes Street, Detroit Lakes, suspicious people were reported in a vehicle. A 34-year-old woman was arrested on an unrelated warrant.

6:57 p.m., 1100 block Richwood Road, Detroit Lakes, a vehicle struck a deer. No injuries.

7:31 p.m., at Walmart at 1583 highway 10, Detroit Lakes, shoplifting.

10:00 p.m., at the Detroit Lakes Community and Cultural Center at 826 Summit Avenue, Detroit Lakes, a small amount of marijuana was found in the men’s locker room.

Friday, Dec. 10

5:24 a.m., near North Shore Drive and Highway 10, Detroit Lakes, a vehicle struck a pole and was found abandoned. The vehicle was impounded.

12:39 p.m., 1300 block Highway 10, Detroit Lakes, a vehicle crash was reported.

12:50 p.m., 28000 block Little Floyd Lake Road, Detroit Lakes, a bullet hole was found in a mailbox.

2:32 p.m., 1000 block 1st Street, Lake Park, theft of a countertop from the common area of an apartment.

2:49 p.m., at Detroit Lakes High School at 1301 Roosevelt Avenue, Detroit Lakes, a student was cited for possessing a small amount of marijuana.

3:48 p.m., 100 block Iowa Street, Callaway, reported check fraud with company checks.

4:33 p.m., near Roosevelt Avenue and Frazee Street, Detroit Lakes, two-vehicle crash. No injuries.

6:49 p.m., near Saint Mary’s Road and Tarnowski Road, Detroit Lakes, hit-and-run involving two vehicles. No injuries.

9:21 p.m., near Circle of Life school, a 4-wheeler driving on school property was reported.

10:29 p.m., near mile marker 257 on Highway 59, Detroit Lakes, two-vehicle crash. One of the drivers fled the scene on foot. Two people were transported to a nearby medical clinic with unknown injuries. The driver who fled remains at-large.

Saturday, Dec. 11

12:27 a.m., at the Holiday Inn Lakefront at 1155 Highway 10, Detroit Lakes, multiple people were involved in a disturbance. The incident remains under investigation.

2:06 a.m., 300 block 11th Avenue, Detroit Lakes, drug related incident.

8:52 a.m., 100 block 2nd Street, Audubon, shoplifting.

12:50 p.m., 100 block Barbara Avenue, Detroit Lakes, three counterfeit bills were found.

Sunday, Dec. 12

8:24 p.m., 32000 block County Road 34, Ogema, hit-and-run crash involving two vehicles. No injuries.
