Detroit Lakes handles Park Rapids in season opener

The Detroit Lakes gymnastics team is off to a strong start after a 133.05-120.7 win over Park Rapids at home on Tuesday night.

Jerzie Horner paced the Lakers in the floor (9.05) and vault (9.35) routines. She also recorded the top all-around score with a 34.8. Elsie Ratz took second in the all-around with a 32.2. Park Rapids’ Emma Berghuis took third with a score of 30.1.

Kaija Ascenwitz led the Lakers on the beam with an 8.45, while Jordan Ehnert won the bars competition with an 8.3. Detroit Lakes took first in all four events and at least three girls in the top five of each.
