Detroit Lakes library to screen 'Singin' in the Rain' this Thursday
The Detroit Lakes Public Library will be hosting its third installment of "Movie Musicals Through the Decades" this Thursday, Dec. 16, with a 2 p.m. screening of the MGM classic "Singin' in the Rain," starring Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O'Connor. The screening is free and open to the public.
The transition from silent to talking films was a fascinating time in movie history — and the classic movie musical "Singin' in the Rain" brings it to life.
On Thursday, Dec. 16 at 2 p.m. the Detroit Lakes Public Library will host a free screening of the musical, which was released by MGM in 1952 and follows three performers — played by Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynold and Donald O’Connor — during the transition from silent to talking films. The film is rated G and has a run time of 1 hour and 43 minutes.
For adults interested in reading more about silent films, the library recommends the historical fiction book, "City of Flickering Light" by Juliette Fay. Join Irene, Millie and Henry as they seek their dreams in making it big in the silent film industry. However, dream seeking is never easy, especially in Hollywood during the 1920’s.
