Detroit Lakes takes third at Fergus Falls invite

The Detroit Lakes boys swimming island diving team opened its season with a third-place finish at the Uvaas Otter Invite in Fergus Falls on Saturday.

The Lakers had a team score of 249 behind a big day from senior John Gulon. He took first place in the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.83), 100-yard backstroke (59.21) and second in the 400-yard relay with Micah Barberg, Ryan Erickson and Zane Roberts with a time of 3:59.66.

Barberg also turned heads with a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle at 1:01.06 and a fourth-place finish in the backstroke (1:10.34). Barberg also swam in the third-place 200-yard medley relay with Erickson, Luther Van Offelen and Zane Roberts to a time of 2:05.06.

Fergus Falls took first place in its home invite with a score of 487. Park Rapids took second with a total of 209.
