Local Sons of Norway to host Trio Con Brio concert
Trio Con Brio, a talented threesome of Swedish musicians, will be visiting Detroit Lakes this coming Tuesday, June 19, for a 7 p.m. concert at First Lutheran Church.
The group's origins stretch back to 2001, when Jan Holmgren conceived the idea of putting together an instrumental trio consisting of one flute, one oboe, and a piano. He thought the group should play music that would be arranged only for that particular trio, and the music genre should be very wide and not connected to a specific type of music. Thus Trio con Brio was born. Today the trio consists of Carina Cederwall — flute, Jan Holmgren — oboe/English horn, and Stig Andersson — piano/arrangements. Together, they create a unique sound with a special iridescent luster.
All three of the musicians were educated at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm, Sweden. Their repertoire is wide and goes from classical music to well-known hymns, jazz, folk and popular music.
Trio con Brio has performed concerts all over Sweden and have also made two CD recordings. This is their sixth United States tour, and the current year's program is titled "Unlimited Music—The Scandinavian Way."
The group's Tuesday concert is being hosted by the Sons of Norway Vikingland Lodge l-495 of Detroit Lakes. No admission fee will be charged; however a free will offering will be taken to defray expenses. Coffee and cookies will be served following the concert. The public is invited to attend and enjoy this musical treat. For more information, please contact Janice Ness at 218-799-9820.
