'Romantic Works for Cello & Piano'

The Historic Holmes Theatre's Classical Music Nights series returns with the first of three planned concerts over the next six months.

Escape from the stress of the 2018 elections with this concert featuring cellist Gregory Hamilton and pianist Jay Herschberger (both music professors at Concordia College), who will present an evening of romantic classical works like the "Chopin Cello Sonata" and "Beethoven Variations on Magic Flute," starting at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $7.50 for students - though for every adult ticket purchased at full price, you can get a second student ticket for free. 'Mary Poppins'

Detroit Lakes Public Schools' 2018 fall musical, "Mary Poppins," is entering its second and final week of performances, starting with today's (Sunday) matinee presentation at 3 p.m.

The cast and crew of nearly 100 aspiring thespians have spent months preparing an ambitious production that brings such memorable tunes as "Step in Time," "Jolly Holiday" and "A Spoonful of Sugar" to soaring life.

Two additional performances of this "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" musical adventure are planned at Detroit Lakes Middle School's George Simson Auditorium, on Thursday, Nov. 8 and Saturday, Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale at Central Market in Detroit Lakes, at a cost of $10 per person.

The Pig & The Pint

Fargo-Moorhead's premier semi-formal evening of informal indulgence, "The Pig & The Pint," returns to Sanctuary Events Center in Fargo this Thursday, Nov. 8 from 6 to 9 p.m. Every guest is treated like a VIP with live entertainment, specialty entrees, and brews unique to the evening.

Presented by Bernie's Wines and Liquors, The Pig & The Pint is a one-of-a-kind culinary event that matches locally-owned restaurants with area breweries to create the ultimate pairings of suds and swine. Half a hog was delivered to each participating restaurant this past Wednesday to begin preparations for this event, which will feature the following restaurant and brewery teams: The Chef's Table Catering & Junkyard Brewing Co.; Luna Fargo & Fargo Brewing Co.; VIP Restaurant and Catering & Drekker Brewing Co.; Big J's Smokehouse & Drumconrath Brewing Co.; Toasted Frog & Kilstone Brewing; Urban Foods Catering & Prairie Brothers' Brewing Co.; Granite City & Flatland Brewery.

Gary Allan at the Shooting Star

Multi-platinum country artist Gary Allan will perform live at Mahnomen's Shooting Star Casino, Hotel and Event Center this Friday, Nov. 9 at 8 p.m.

However, if you don't already have your ticket, you're probably out of luck - this concert is listed as "sold out," and there are no more seats available for online purchase.
