Park Rapids community band concert is Saturday

PARK RAPIDS - The Park Rapids Area Community Band will present their 28th annual fall concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18 in the Park Rapids Area High School auditorium.

The theme is "Hands Across the Sea," with a combination of American and British composers. Sousa's march, "Hands Across the Sea," sets the tone. Also included in the concert will be a medley of tunes from "My Fair Lady" by Americans Lerner and Lowe, "First Suite in E flat for Military Band" by British composer Gustav Holst, "Anchors Aweigh" by American composer Charles Zimmerman, and a symphonic suite from the Walt Disney movie "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl." Two more British composers are included with Elgar's "Nimrod" from "Enigma Variations" and a medley of tunes from Handel's "Fireworks Music." "Bugler's Holiday" by Leroy Anderson features the trumpet section. The program concludes with the traditional "Stars and Stripes Forever" by John Philip Sousa.

'Bee Responsible' program Thursday at Perham library

PERHAM - Join Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Habitat Specialist, James Kawlewski, for a "Bee Responsible" program at the Perham Area Public Library on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m.

Do you want to see more ducks in the marsh and wildlife in your yard? Then this free program is for you. It is also for hunters, birdwatchers, photographers, gardeners or anyone looking to save time and money on yard maintenance.

Guests will learn responsible techniques to see more wildlife around their homes or businesses, as well as cost effective shoreline preservation and how this important solution benefits everyone.

Park Rapids photo contest deadline nears

PARK RAPIDS - The deadline for the summer/fall Park Rapids Downtown Business Association photo contest is Friday, Nov. 30. Max Bailey Photography sponsors the contest and awards a professionally finished, 11-by-14-inch print of the winning photograph in each of four categories: Park Rapids Area Lake Scenes, Recreation, Wildlife and Main Street Scenes. Amateur and professional photographers are welcome to participate. Contest rules, guidelines and the photo entry form are on our website.
