Girls basketball: Willmar hands Detroit Lakes first 8-3A loss of the season

The Detroit Lakes girls basketball team saw its shooting woes continue on Friday night in a 54-26 loss at Willmar.

Ella Okeson led the Lakers (1-5) in scoring with nine points. Elle bettcher had six, while Jacee Hauser had five.

The Cardinals (7-5) held the Lakers to just nine first-half points. Jaida Reiman had a game-high 18 points for Willma, while Sammy Christoffer had 10.

Detroit Lakes’ losing streak extends to five games after the season-opening win against Little Falls. Friday night’s loss was the first Section 8-3A loss for the Lakers this season. Willmar was formerly in Section 5-3A before the Minnesota State High School League realignment.

The Lakers hit the road for Pequot Lakes (11-1) on Thursday.
