Hawley pulls away in overtime to hand Detroit Lakes second straight loss

Hawley needed five extra minutes to put away the Detroit Lakes basketball team on Thursday night in an 81-72 overtime victory.

Tied 32-32 at the half and 69-69 after regulation, the Nuggets went on an 11-2 run in the overtime session to hand Detroit Lakes (1-2) its second loss of the season. The win keeps Hawley unbeaten at 3-0.

Nate Cihak led the Lakers in scoring with 21 points. He also grabbed seven boards and collected three steals. Mason Carrier put up 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Chris Breeden had a season-high 15 points. Oliver Quam brought down 10 rebounds in the paint for the Lakers as well.

Detroit Lakes gets an extended period of time to regroup before its first road game of the year at St. Cloud Apollo next Friday.
