Two Cardinals’ pool records fell as the Detroit Lakes swimming and diving team prepared to defend the section True Team title this coming weekend with a blowout victory at Staples-Motley 148-21 Tuesday, Oct. 8.

The 200-freestyle relay team of Evan Westrum, Faith Hamm, Chelsy Johnson and Jennifer Tracy swam a combined time of 1:45.15 to set a new mark in the Staples pool.

Senior Jackson Hegg broke the pool diving record with a scoring total of 215.80 points.

The Lakers recorded first place finishes in each event.

The 200-medley relay team of Lucy Steinke, Madi Gerdes, Lexi Gerdes and Kaitlyn Peterson won in a time of 1:59.32.

The 400-freestyle team of Tracy, Hamm, Johnson and Westrum wrapped up the relay sweep and the meet in a winning time of 4:01.31.

Tracy was the 200-free winner in 2:14.47 and placed first in the 100-backstroke (1:06.32).

Lexi Gerdes touched first in the 200-individual medley (2:26.23). Madi Gerdes won the 100-breaststroke (1:12.87).

Peterson swam 26.45 to win the 50-free.

Westrum won the 100-fly in 1:03.29.

Steinke was the lone swimmer to break one-minute in winning the 100-freestyle in 58.86.

Hamm was nearly one minute faster than the field in the 500-free (5:53.16).

Detroit Lakes heads to Grand Rapids looking to capture a fifth consecutive Section 8A True Team title and make a sixth straight appearance at state True Team Saturday, Oct. 12.
