SUMMARY OF ORDINANCE NO. 455
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CITY CODE CHAPTER 503A ANIMALS TO BE RENAMED CHAPTER 503 ANIMALS
The following is the official summary of Ordinance No. 455 which was passed by the City Council on December 10, 2019.
The City Council has determined by a 4/5ths vote that publication of the title and a summary of the ordinance will clearly inform the public of the intent and effect of the ordinance and hereby directs that only the title and summary be published. A printed copy of the ordinance is available for inspection by any person during regular office hours at the office of the City Clerk, 1025 Roosevelt Avenue, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.
The City Council of the City of Detroit Lakes hereby ordain:
Ordinance No. 455 will allow the keeping up to 4 chickens (hens) on residential properties in the R-2" district.
Persons keeping chickens must
A. Apply for and obtain a permit
B. Meet certain property requirements
C. Follow coop and run requirements
D. Follow sanitation requirements and conditions
E. Allow inspections
The ordinance also limits the number of dogs, cats, rabbits, and guinea pigs to two for any combination thereof or three if the animals are sterilized.
The ordinance also requires dog runs/ enclosures to be in the rear yard and setback 10 feet from all lot lines.
This Ordinance shall take effect upon passage and publication as provided by Law.
