DLMS band to perform concert

The Detroit Lakes Middle School Bands will present their second concert of the school year in their Winter Band Concert on Monday, Jan. 31. The performance will be presented in the DL George Simson Middle School Auditorium.

The Detroit Lakes Middle School Bands will present their second concert of the school year in their Winter Band Concert on Monday, Jan. 31. The performance will be presented in the DL George Simson Middle School Auditorium.

The bands will again be performing an eclectic variety of music. Included will be numerous categories of band literature. Samples include traditional and contemporary marches, original programmatic pieces, overtures, slow tunes, popular and rock tunes, a classic television series sound track, and multi-cultural works.

The Sixth Grade Band will perform: "Activity March," Prescience," "Laramie" (A Western Overture, and "Overlords," a dramatic work depicting a person in a position of supremacy.

Next to perform is the Seventh Grade Band with: a patriotic tune in "The Original Thirteenth Concert March," "Electricity," a programmatic selection depicting electrical current, "Old Irish Tune," an Irish Folk Tune originating centuries ago, "Happy Days," and the overture "Fire Dance."

Closing the program will be the Eighth Grade Band with "Prestissimo Gallop," followed by the programmatic piece "For the Fallen", a musical portrayal written for the many heroes in the events following the attack on the United States on Sept. 11, 2001. An original rock tune is next in "Trumpet Shout Out!" The Eighth Grade Band will close the performance with "Ascend (3rd Movement from Georgian Suite)."
