Come to the Cultural Center in New York Mills to enjoy the annual Longest Night Music Festival this Sunday, Dec. 21 at 7 p.m.

This free solstice concert marks the time when the world turns from increasingly shorter days toward the longer days of spring, and provides a time to enjoy music, food, and conversation at this annual event.

A bevy of artists including Lisa Winter, Father Peter Kirchner, Madeline Scott, John Perry, Dave Virnala, Tyson Cavalier, Todd Voss, Fern Belling and Amanda Standalone will be at the Center to celebrate the solstice and the season of light in music and song.

Michael Dagen will be running sound for the Longest Night concert.

Everyone is invited to this free, informal concert, the last Cultural Center event of the year.

And, as always there will be food shared by the community with all who attend. Doors open at 6:30 and the music starts at 7:30 p.m.

The Cultural Center staff will also be introducing the audience to its upcoming “winter light” festivities, to be held Feb. 2 -which is both Candlemas Day and Groundhog Day, midway between the winter solstice and the vernal equinox - and enjoy the Winter Light exhibit that will fill the main gallery with beautiful interpretations of light, brought to the Center in January and February by visiting artist Charles Matson Lume.

Before the concert, visitors can also enjoy the community art show on exhibit through Dec. 30.

Over 20 community members have loaned their favorite pieces of art to the Center for the month of December. (A reception is set for this Friday, Dec. 19 from 4-6 p.m.)
