Growing up in the small town of Sharon, Kansas, Martina McBride found her love of music after she began singing in her father’s band, “The Schiffters.”
In 1988, she married her husband, John McBride, a studio engineer whom she met after renting studio space, and the couple moved to Nashville, Tennessee, with hopes of beginning a career in country music. McBride got her big break after signing with RCA Nashville Records and becoming the opening act for Garth Brooks.
McBride released her first studio album, “The Time Has Come,” in 1992, but it wasn’t until her second album, “The Way That I Am,” that she achieved commercial success. “My Baby Loves Me,” and “Life #9,” both ranked Top 10 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart and “Independence Day,” won Video of the Year and Song of the Year at the Country Music Association (CMA) Awards.

In 1997, McBride’s fourth album, “Evolution,” was her first album to rank among country music’s Top 10 albums, selling more than two million copies and boasting four Top 10 hits, including, “Happy Girl,” “Whatever You Say,” “A Broken Wing,” and “Wrong Again.”
In 2001, McBride released her first compilation album, “Greatest Hits,” which is her highest-selling album, reaching triple platinum. In contrast to the pop-country sound she became famous for, her most recent album, “Everlasting,” released in 2014, found success covering classic soul and R&B tracks.
To-date, McBride has released 12 albums, has been named CMA Female Vocalist of the Year four times, and Top Female Vocalist from the Academy of Country Music (ACM) three times. She has also sold more than 18 million records, and continues to be one of the most played women vocalist in country music.
